The ASUS Rampage V Extreme is a testament to the ASUS ROG line with design aesthetics and performance that mesh in an almost perfect synthesis. You get all of the tools you need to get your hardware to perform at its highest level without compromises. Overall, the experience of working with the board was as I expected. After spending between $500 and a $1000 for a CPU, the price point is going to be there. You know going in that you will face a price premium for a top of the line board so sticker shock is not going to be something the target user is going to be worried about. At $474, the board is not for the faint of heart. This module can be flush mounted in a 5.25” drive bay and attaches to the Rampage V Extreme via a custom braided connector just long enough for it to sit near the case when removed. Along with the usual USB 3.1 card, 3T3R WiFi antenna and other expected goodies, Asus’s crazy play in the X99 arena is a detachable module with a color screen called the OC Panel that reports real-time system information and allows changes in clockspeed, cooling profiles and other areas on the fly. As is normal for motherboards in this rarified class, the motherboard itself is just a part of the package.
